Gabrielle Fondiller

Co-founder and Director (2006)

After studying abroad in Mombasa in 2006, Gabrielle co-founded Hatua Network with Peter Kwame. Her role focuses on charting Hatua's strategic direction and leading program development.

Peter Kwame

Co-founder and Director (2006)

An African Visionary Fellow and Obama Foundation Scholar with a post-grad certificate in Strategic Leadership from Columbia University, Kwame handles strategic planning, program oversight, fundraising, and corporate partnerships.

Daniel Nyanga

Programs Manager (2019)

To Hatua's beneficiaries, Daniel is like a big brother. He designs Hatua's programs, supervises high school and university scholarships, and implements mentoring programs that positively impact students' lives and communities.

Nancy Wairimu

Mentoring Coordinator (2021)

Nancy's firm belief that the youth hold the key to the world’s challenges led her to Hatua, where she is now in charge of creating mentorship programs for high school students during their school holidays.

Patricia Buyu

Tertiary Mentoring Officer (2022)

When it comes to literature, no one in Hatua can light a candle next to her extensive knowledge. A teacher by profession, Patricia started out as a mentoring facilitator where her exemplary work ethic and skills led her to become a full-fledged member of the team.

Tertiary Mentoring Officer (2022)

Mary is a Hatua alumna and a multi-faceted individual with many talents. She is an artist, a fashion model, a designer, an actor, a singer, and a dancer. But underneath those layers, Mary finds greater fulfillment in working with youth and impacting them positively.

Kelvin Ikutwa

Scholarship Coordinator (2021)

Kelvin is a Global Youth Ambassador member, lover of African heritage stories, not to mention, a Hatua alumnus! His strong belief that mentorship and a good education are a firm foundation for success is what drives him in his role at Hatua.

Fridah Makokha

Secondary Mentoring Officer, (2022)

Fridah feels most at home interacting and working with the youth. As a counseling psychologist and one of our alumni, she understands the challenges students face and uses her skills and experience to guide mentoring for Hatua's secondary school students.

Samuel Kahunga

Employer Partnerships Officer (2022)

Sam is an ardent photographer and lover of adventure. However, his real superpower lies in building relationships, a skill he uses to help Hatua build connections with Kenyan employers.

Evans Omondi

Library Coordinator (2012)

Evans found a home in Hatua's libraries. Here, he develops Hatua’s library programs. His proudest achievement so far has been growing Hatua’s libraries from a single one in Likoni to a network of 11 spread across Mombasa.

Library Officer, Mvita (2018)

Macrina is keen to empower youth  through education. She runs daily library operations across Hatua's Mvita school libraries and makes sure that the young people who step through her doors can learn what they need to lead a better life.

James' love for books led him to study Library Science in college. After he graduated, he didn't have to look far to find his dream job. As a Hatua alumnus, he was accepted as a Library Fellow and quickly rose to his current role where loves sharing his love for books.

Mwanahamisi Badi

Library Officer, Nyali (2021)

Mwananhamsi is an avid reader. This is why as Hatua's Library Officer, nothing brings her more joy than fostering a reading culture among the young children who come to visit the library. She truly is living by her motto: reading is not boring.

Computer Lab Technician (2014)

Ocharo is a tech-geek. When he isn’t running and managing Hatua’s computer lab, you’ll find him teaching computer literacy to children and youth  where he teaches them how to code (a must-have skill if you ask him!)

Cynthia Oyier

Finance Manager (2007)

Cynthia's way with numbers keeps Hatua running. She is in charge of developing annual budgets and reports while keeping a close eye on spreadsheets to make sure that Hatua’s beneficiaries always have funds to go to school.

Sylvia has grown through Hatua's process from being one of our beneficiaries to now joining the team! At Hatua, she is in charge of tracking students’ financial needs, general procurement, and compliance, ensuring our programs run efficiently.
