Empowering Futures Through Mentorship

At the heart of every successful young person is mentorship. Holding the hand of a young person and offering accurate information on issues affecting them and the community is the focus of our secondary mentoring program.

Mentorship the Hatua way:

Holiday mentoring programs at Hatua provide a structured framework for our students to receive guidance and support on their journey to success. Mentoring happens during the school holidays. They are driven by carefully selected facilitators who undergo a rigorous interview process ensuring a diverse set of facilitators with diverse set of skills and experience. A week of Training of Trainers (TOT) happens after shortlisting. This is to verse the facilitators with the mentoring curriculum for the specific term as well as train them on facilitation skills. The facilitators guide our students in developing the necessary skills and competencies that are core to us. The goal of mentoring is to teach our students necessary soft skills that are not taught in school but are fundamental in Kenya’s modern economy.

One of the core competencies we want our students to develop is communication. Mentoring, therefore, provides an avenue to boost our students’ confidence and self-esteem. Our facilitators recognize and nurture the unique strengths and talents of our secondary students, fostering a sense of belief in their abilities.

Since our students study in different schools of different calibers and localities across the country,  the holiday mentoring sessions create an avenue to connect to other Hatua students in different schools fostering a sense of belonging. Through these connections, our students gain access to a broader range of resources, experiences, and perspectives, which contribute to their personal and academic growth.

Mentoring programs go beyond social and academic development; they foster holistic growth by addressing various aspects of the student’s lives. Our facilitators provide guidance not only in academic-related matters but also in personal development and emotional well-being by identifying students that require professional and emotional support and linking them to the Hatua counselors. This comprehensive support ensures that students not only achieve academic success but also lead fulfilling lives, equipped with the tools to navigate challenges and make positive contributions to their communities.

Mentoring programs create a ripple effect of positive change as students influence the community around them at home and in school. Through the knowledge and guidance they receive, students are inspired to pay it forward by mentoring others around them, creating a cycle of growth and empowerment within their communities. As mentors, they embody the transformative power of mentoring programs and perpetuate the invaluable impact of mentorship, thus creating a virtuous cycle of knowledge sharing, growth, and empowerment.

Our secondary mentoring programs have become transformative platforms that unlock the full potential of our students, fostering personal and professional growth, expanding networks, and empowering students to navigate the challenges of life. The guidance, support, and wisdom shared by facilitators serve as beacons of inspiration, illuminating the path to success. The transformation is evident and progressive in our students.
